Why Take Part in a Blog Hop?

September 27, 2013

It’s Follow Up Friday, where I respond to the questions y’all ask in the comments all week! They may or may not be related to the actual posts, which shakes things up a bit. Thank you. Jodi, at Heart Like a Dog, hosts this blog hop, and her co-host today is Sue, from The Golden Life.

Blog hops love photos
All good blog hops involve photos. Really. Weird photos like this one.

I’m going to answer an imaginary question first.
Why would you take part in a blog hop when you could just do something original? Isn’t that lazy?
Oh my. Sometimes. I actually take part in a blog hop every single day. Mondays are Monday Mischief, with Snoopy. Tuesday is Tasty Tuesday, with Sugar and Kolchak Puggle. Wednesday is Blog Paws’ Wordless Wednesday blog hop. Thursday is This’n’That Thursday, hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs. And Friday is always Jodi’s Follow Up Friday blog hop. There are plenty of other blog hops, but these are the ones which work for me.

What a blog hop does is give me a schedule, for starters. I always know what I need to write toward on any given day. Writers’ block almost never happens if there’s a blog hop schedule, which totally rocks.

Also, taking part in a blog hop, especially on Mondays and Wednesdays when there are a lot of participants, puts my link for the day in front of a lot of bloggers who might not otherwise visit. Myself, I go through the hops nearly every day and visit the participants. There are a ton of blogs that I love and visit when I can, but at least I’m visiting the people who have entered the blog hop for the day. That also means that I meet new bloggers along the way, which I love!

Except for cat blogs. I don’t visit very many of them. Sorry.

Taryn asks, of my Canada Goose, Ryan Gosling:
How’s Ryan doing? Haven’t seen her/him in a while. Fully flying by now?
Hipster goose
Ryan is kinda pigeon toed. Is that a hipster trait?

Ryan migrated. Flew away with the other geese. Made me very sad. And the poop situation is now under control. So.

Gizmo cracked me up with his questions on Scoop the Poop Monday:
I have to ask…have you really sent a bag of poop through the wash? I’ve sent empty bags, but a full one…you’re pulling our legs, right?
Heh. I’ve never done this, but I know people who have. It’s not pretty. They tucked the poop bag into their pocket while walking, then forgot it was there. Better to tie the poop bag to your leash. Check out Sugar’s blog for some great ideas on scooping the poop!

Concerning Al Yankovic’s appearance in Tulsa, several people asked why I brought a spatula to have him sign, and Jodi asked:
How many items did he sign?
Jodi, I don’t think there was a limit, so long as one item was something we purchased of his, like his children’s book. My boy and I each had Al sign two things. As to the spatula, in the movie, UHF, there’s a TV commercial for Spatula City.

Yeah. So I had a spatula signed for  my sister, who is a bigger fan than I am. Seriously.

Jackie asked:
What did you have him sign?
Well, the children’s book and the spatula. The children’s book is ADORABLE. Hilarious. I love the illustrations. I bought one of each (he’s written two) and had them signed for my nephew and a good friend’s nephew. So I didn’t have anything signed for myself. My son, Squatch, had his leather top hat signed, but had Al sign it to me. That was the sweetest thing ever. He’s my favorite.

And just last night, on Facebook, Christie asked me if there were coupon codes for ordering Jones Natural Chews online. The stores in her area which carry Jones don’t have Lulu’s favorite treats, things like the Rib Rollers and the Pig Ears. Two things – always feel free to ask your local store when they’ll start carrying your dog’s favorite treats, and Natural Dog Treat Shop offers a different coupon every month if you sign up to get them in your inbox.

Y’all have a great weekend! I’m going to play with chickens and a duck.

Until I write again …
