Spam is Evil

January 30, 2014

HAVE YOU ENTERED THE GIVEAWAY?!?

You may notice – well, you’ll definitely notice, now that I’m pointing it out – that my Captcha feature has returned to the comments. I removed it a few months ago because Captcha drives me INSANE! But Spam is evil. EEEEEEVIL.

Clowning around
Spam is evil like clowns. That’s me on the left. I started young. My poor Hunny and his phobia of clowns never stood a chance.

Y’all, at least a hundred Spam comments in a day (I stopped counting after 50). My Askimet catches thousands of them, so this is what makes it through the wonderful Askimet. I spent half of this morning marking the weird comments as Spam.

Chihuahuas kissing in the snow
These kissing Chihuahuas are NOT evil. They’re adorable. And if they were REAL Chihuahuas, they’d want to gobble up a couple of Lambly Links from Jones Natural Chews.

For you newer bloggers, you may be asking, “What exactly do these Spam comments look like?” They look a lot like regular comments. There are no links, no html. They’re just regular looking comments. But! In every one of them there are grossly misspelled words. All of the letters are there, but in the wrong order, in at least one word. Like “relugar” instead of regular.

Kissing chimps
There’s nothing evil about chimpanzees kissing in the snow. And chimps don’t eat Jones chews. They eat leaves. Poor, poor chimpanzees.

Also? The comment has zero to do with my blog or the post. A lot like the photos today have nothing to do with the post. Comments about real estate and blankets. Sometimes they’re about dogs and training, but have nothing to do with the actual post.

Cows in a snowstorm
Many of the Jones chews are made from beef. None of the Jones chews are made from these cows. This is Fred, Bessie, and their son, Fredrick.

The posts? Heh. That’s the other thing. They’re all left on old posts, months old, even a year. I haven’t been blogging all that long, after all.

Clee-o, a 4 month old Australian Shepherd
This is Clee-o, our first Aussie pup. She was just four months old, 21 years ago. She loved Jones Natural Chews.

So my question, and I’m hoping one of you has a good answer, is why do this? Why are these spam comments left on old posts? There are no links to anything. There doesn’t seem to be a purpose in them. I just don’t understand. Help! It makes no sense. Like I said Spam is evil.

A boy and a bunny
This is my Squatch at about three years old, feeding Brian, our backyard bunny. Wasn’t Squatch a cutie pie?

Why is it evil? I don’t think all these comments did my blog any harm. But they sucked away half a day for me, my time. I woke up this morning – after marking Spam half of last evening – to find 50 more of the evil Spam comments. Time is precious. I could be watching Will Smith music videos on YouTube.

Did I say that out loud? Yes, yes, yes … Will Smith is my guilty pleasure. Moving on …

Kids with a bird
M and O with our ‘tiel, Sid. He was a sweetheart. Loved Cheerios.

Anyone with an answer would be welcome. Here’s to less Spam, since Spam is evil. And here’s to more Jones Natural Chews. For everyone but the ceramic Chihuahuas.

Oh! And don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Until I write again …
