Sniffing Butts Over the Weekend

March 21, 2013

Is that an offensive title? Sniffing butts over the weekend? Because maybe I didn’t actually sniff any dogs’ rear ends, but I met a whole lot of super cute dogs this weekend. They all sniffed the back of my hand before I scratched them. Ultimately they wiggle around till I’m scratching their butts. Does that count?

Y’all met the adorable little Pyrenean Shepherd yesterday:

Pyr Shep at the Tulsa AKC Dog Agility Championships
LOOK AT THIS FACE! This Pyrenean Shepherd stole my heart.

And the Border Collie and Bearded Collie on Monday:

Give these dogs a treat!
Both dogs have a ton of personality

As well as the Shetland Sheepdog:

There were Shelties EVERYWHERE this weekend. This was one of the prettiest I saw.

But check out the All American Dog I met this weekend at the AKC Dog Agility Championships:

Terrier mix
A Gizmo looking dog. It’s mom thinks it’s part Chihuahua.

Y’all, this little dog is a rescue pup and reminded me a lot of Gizmo, one of my favorite dogs.

Terrier Torrent
This dog and his mama are a beautiful pair

Gizmo is a handsome terrier, yes? I also met (and watch for future dog of the week posts) a Dalmatian and pup:

Mom and pup
The Dalmatian puppy was TOO adorable!

A pretty German Wirehaired Pointer:

Wiry dog
I love the white and liver colors on a dog. What a big, handsome boy!

This adorable Golden Retriever:

Golden Retriever
Y’all, I thought this Golden was an Irish Setter. His mama says he’s out of a field line, whatever that means. He’s awfully pretty.

Toto! Okay, it’s a Cairn Terrier, otherwise known as the little dog in The Wizard of Oz:

Dorothy's dog
I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore …

There are a few more photos I’ll reserve for another day. And some chick photos I’ll save for the end. 🙂

So I was sniffing butts this weekend, meeting and greeting new dogs. All gorgeous specimens of their breeds. Then I came home to my own two dogs, handsome mongrels, old for their breed, waiting for the treats I couldn’t give to the purebred agility dogs. And I was grateful to see my babies, pet them the way I know they love. They were happy to see me, after they sniffed me thoroughly, reading all the scent I carried home.

My next task, motivated by the weekend agility trials, is to begin building an agility course in the backyard for my girls. They’re a little small yet, but I think they’ll enjoy agility.

Future agility chicken
One of the Chipmunk Chicks, or Hobbitses, this chick loves to jump and flutter. This will make for a good agility chicken.

Not the prettiest chicks in the world right now. They’re about two and a half to three weeks old and their feathers are coming in all wonky, which is normal. Ugly little dinosaur chicks.

Barred Rock
I think Aragorn may be a Barred Plymouth Rock. She’s going to be an amazing agility chicken. I can just feel it.

Look at those big, powerful legs! These chickens are going to blow away the agility competition.

unknown breed
Handsome little chipmunk

Did you know that there is also goat and rabbit agility? I talked to a woman who sells agility features for the backyard and she told me about it. What fun! All the more reason to push for a goat. 🙂

Quite frankly, I think my chickens will do a better job. We’ll see. Y’all have a great day!

Until I write again …
