Service Dogs
Happy Funny Bone Monday! Today’s funny videos are the antics of service dogs. What? Service dogs can’t cut up like other dogs? If you think that, you obviously don’t know Miss Carma Poodale. Today we also announce the winner of the Bully N Beef treat from Jones Natural Chews, so stay tuned till the end!
Check out the first video – service dogs have heroes, too.
Is that not the cutest thing, play bowing to Pluto?! Next up, a funny guy talks about his service dog. I went on a binge kick, awhile back, with America’s Got Talent and X Factor, then wound up subscribing to comedian Drew Lynch’s YouTube channel. He makes me smile. Even better, his service dog, Stella, is adorable. This sketch he talks about her, but if you want to see Stella in action, take a look at his dog vlog.
Sometimes we don’t understand a service dog’s role. Often we don’t. I mean, how does a service dog help a guy with a stutter (he tells his back story about the injury which caused the stutter in the initial audition on AGT)? What seem to be perfectly abled people have service dogs. Their role, though, is invaluable. Watch the following video and tell me what you think? I love how calm Widsor remains, and how he reads his human so beautifully.
There are common courtesy rules for service dogs. Carma Poodale does such a great job at educating the public about her role, as well as our role. For more information about what a service dog is, what it’s trained to do, click here. But what do we humans need to know?
- Don’t pet a service dog without permission from its handler – be prepared to be told no, and don’t throw a fit
- As you saw in Drew’s video, the service dog won’t verbally respond if you talk to it, so please speak with the handler before the dog, and before making kissy noises to the dog
- This one is true of all dogs you don’t know, but people do it and need to stop – don’t feed the dog!
- This is also true of all dogs you don’t know – don’t let your dog go right up to a service dog and sniff or play without first asking permission of the handler
Our last video is the best I’ve seen at explaining exactly what a service dog is. Short, thorough, well done. Take a look.
I’m grateful for the people who train them, as well as the people who benefit by their company. Service dogs rock!
