We’re making noises about our next dog, since Flash and Patches are nearly 12. We’re not wishing them dead, just knowing that older dogs do a better job of training younger dogs in some ways. And younger dogs bring new life to older dogs, giving them more time with us, happier time here. Generally. But which is the right dog for us? Which is the right dog for you? Do you know?

I’m a quiz person. I love a good quiz. And Hunny and I are at a little bit of a disagreement in which is the right dog for us. I love our medium sized Aussies, he wants a lap dog. I don’t mind all the shedding, but he’d like a low maintenance dog that doesn’t turn the carpet black with hair. *sigh* So I turn to some of my favorite quizzes. My first favorite is the one from Animal Planet. It’s a good quiz, with plenty of relevant questions, beginning with what size dog you’d like to have.

When I take that quiz, the top dog is the Fox Terrier, at 98% criteria met. They’re adorable dogs, but I can’t see Hunny agreeing to it. Second on the list is the Miniature Schnauzer. I know that’s a dog Hunny will love, so this quiz passes the test.
Something I find myself asking, as I look at cute puppy photos, is will we be looking for a puppy, or a rescue dog? And where will we find the right dog? Flash and Patches are rescue dogs, three years old when we got them. I love the rescue dog idea. I love not having to housebreak another puppy. Ever. This means that our next dog, like our current fur babies, probably won’t be pure bred. And that’s okay with us.

I move on to another quiz, to make sure I find the right dog for us. I like Pedigree’s quiz, as the first thing they ask is about your dwelling space, focusing on the security and space for your new dog. Pedigree doesn’t know me very well, though, because the top three picks are the three types of Dachshund.

They’re adorable dogs, but not for us. Fourth is one of my favorite smaller breeds, the Boston Terrier. Woohoo!

For our third and final quiz, answering the question, “Which dog is right for you?”, I turn to Select Smart for their breed quiz. I like that it allows me to prioritize the answers to the questions, as well as explaining why they ask some of the questions that they do. Thing is, I’m not wild about the results. The first dog on the list is the Bichon Frise. I have a thing about those dogs. They’re adorable – I just knew one once … let’s leave it at that. Ninth on their list, and the first one I’d seriously consider, is the Pyrenean Shepherd.

Having met one last year, I’d say the Pyrenean Shepherd is a good choice for our home. Provided I could find one.
I’m hoping that this helps in your decision making! And whichever dog you choose, I hope you give it Jones Natural Chews. All natural, grown and made in the USA – treat your dog right by treating them to Jones. Don’t you want your dog to smile? 🙂
Until I write again …
