Opossum Humor is a Thing?

January 16, 2014

Oh my dog – y’all, I’ve come across the funniest series of videos I’ve ever seen. Opossum humor. The family and I watched them last night and laughed so hard I thought all the blood vessels in my face would burst. I won’t wait till Monday to share them with you. Let’s start slow, with the first one I saw. It had me shaking my head, wondering if this woman was serious.

We were staring at each other, wondering if we should laugh. You’re probably doing the same thing. Is she serious? Is this her version of opossum humor? And what the HECK is going on with the opossum? But this next video – here’s a tip or two: go to the bathroom now. Get everything out. Finish your morning coffee. Don’t be drinking anything when you watch this next video. Seriously.

Did you fall over laughing? There’s a whole series. They’re hilarious! Well, if you like this opossum humor.

What does this have to do with dogs and treats? Hmm. Opossums are omnivores. I’m guessing they’d love a lot of the Jones Natural Chews. But this woman is a wildlife rehabilitator. My best guess is that all of this craziness subsidizes what she does for animals. It’s my idea of the perfect job, if my job could be any more perfect than it is. Saving injured wildlife, having them in my home, making hilarious videos, while funding the whole thing through humor. Check out the ME Pearl page.

Let’s talk about the opossum a little bit. I’ve had a vitriolic hatred of them for more than ten years, when one tried killing our backyard pet rabbit in Florida. I had no idea that they were omnivores. And opossums will get into a hen house and kill all the chickens, so I don’t want them in my yard now. Not to mention their tiny needle teeth and the hissing thing that a wild opossum will do when you approach (I had occasion to approach a couple when we lived in Florida – it was kinda scary, I won’t lie).

My house duck
I don’t know what Jimmy would do when faced with an opossum. I’d like to think he’d defend the chickens. He can be pretty fierce.

That said, the opossum is not an enemy to your dog or cat. They tend to get to be about the size of a large house cat, and they love ripe fruit and canned cat food. Don’t feed the outdoor cats canned food, and don’t leave ripe fruit out for birds. It will attract this ugly marsupial.

That’s right. I said ugly. From that scaly, prehensile tail, to the tiny teeth and beady eyes, I find them ugly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yes?

We’ll look at something adorable to wash out the brain.

Loving that underbite!
Honey is my favorite Shih Tzu. And she’s pretty darn cute.

Isn’t Miss Honey the most adorable little Shih Tzu ever? Not enough to scrub your inner optics? Here.

Honey asks for a Jones chew
This is not an opossum.

I spent time visiting with Honey and my mom yesterday, but forgot my bag of treats. Poor Miss Honey was disappointed. She looks forward to the bag of treats when I visit, especially if there are Beef Liver Taffy strips in the bag. I think those are her favorites.

Now y’all go forth and enjoy your day. Give your dog an extra hug and treat. Make sure it’s a Jones Natural Chew, since they’re 100% all natural and 100% grown and made in the USA. If you can’t find the Jones chews at your local pet or feed store, check out Natural Dog Treat Shop.

Until I write again …
