Noise Cancelling Treats
Today’s guest blogger is Barbara Rivers, the Blogger behind K9sOverCoffee.com
K9sOverCoffee was born in August of 2014, featuring Missy & Buzz, Barbara’s two Boxer Mixes. After Missy’s cancer diagnosis, treatments, & recovery throughout late 2014/early 2015, the blog’s focus has been on dog health using a combination of daily physical & mental exercise, a healthy, ideally raw, diet, and natural alternatives to chemical based skincare & pest prevention products.
Celebrating Spring With Jones Natural Chews
Our NC winter temperature roller coaster has finally come to an end and spring has made his appearance.
The pups celebrated with a little “BBQ” in our yard and munched away on their Jumbo Pig Ears from Jones Natural Chews, a single-ingredient treat we hadn’t tried yet.
Single Ingredient Chews
I love that they literally only consist of the oven baked pig ear and contain no artificial ingredients, by-products, or other superfluous add-ons – I’m a total sucker for single-and limited ingredient treats & chews, so these were right up my alley.
The one downside of Spring is that it comes with quite a few military training exercises here in our Ft. Bragg, NC area. Although we’re about 15-20 minutes away from post, the muffled sounds of explosions are clearly noticeable, and on particularly “busy” training days, the glasses in our kitchen cupboards make lovely clanking sounds (<- insert sarcasm here).
Great For Desensitizing To Loud Noise
Since I try to have a positive outlook on things in general, I’ve used the noise in combination with high-quality chews to create a positive association, and hence desensitize the pups to it.
The Braided Stix from Jones Natural Chews consist of three all-natural beef pizzles that have been braided together. They are then oven baked in their own casing, for additional flavor.
They make the perfect high-quality chews to distract Missy & Buzz from the booming & banging that’s going on in the background.
Of course you don’t necessarily have to live close to a military facility in order to put the Jones Natural Chews to good use – break out a high-quality chew such as the pig ear or the braided stick during festivities involving fireworks or during t-storms, and your pup should be focusing on the edible goodie instead of the noise (a little tip: the calmer you stay throughout the noise, the calmer your pup will be).
Are There Any Cons To The Pig Ears & Braided Stix?
The only flaw I could find with both chews was that they didn’t last longer than 15 minutes. I was curious to see how long exactly they’d last with my chew crazies, and timed their feast. In the chews’ defense, I have to say that both Missy & Buzz are experts when it comes to chewing 😉 They got their very first bully sticks when they were just a few months old.
Peace Of Mind
It gives me peace of mind knowing that all Jones’ products are 100% grown & made right here in the States. I refuse to reach for any treats made in China and have made it my mission to find and write about treats & chews the pups love AND that I feel good about handing out.
Missy & Buzz’s Verdict
The pups’ verdict was unanimous: “Mommy, please get your paws on more pig ears & braided stix.” At only 173 calories per pig ear & 240 calories per stick, I totally will. Here’s to many more military training exercises. Oh, and July 4th is just around the corner, too, meaning we’ll need to practice our indifference to loud noise a little more 😉
