All natural is kind of a big deal. Everywhere you look, it’s become the tag line for food, clothes, life. Makeup, shampoo, toothpaste – all natural is kind of a big deal. But what on earth does it really mean?
FDA has not developed a definition for use of the term natural or its derivatives. However, the agency has not objected to the use of the term if the food does not contain added color, artificial flavors, or synthetic substances.
That’s according to the government. So. Do all of these new products live up to some standard? Does Jones Natural Chews? Here’s what Jones has to say about its being all natural.
All Jones natural meat treats and chews for dogs are created using only USA meat products and never any artificial ingredients.
Here’s what all natural really means when it comes to Jones Natural Chews and your dog – every Jones chew is made from one or more natural ingredients, meaning nothing artificial, nothing synthetic, no colors added. Many of the treats are single ingredient, directly from livestock. For instance, a single Pig Ear, or a Beef Hoof – one ingredient treats. No coating or treatment – just slow baked to perfection with nothing added. And 100% grown and baked here in the USA. Always.
Jones offers bones, hooves, ears, pork skin, knuckles, lungs, pizzles and more as single ingredient treats. Simple and all natural. But let’s talk for a moment about the chews and treats with more than one ingredient, lest you think we’re trying to pull the wool over your eyes.
The Tender Taffy Chicken Blend (chicken taffy, which is a soft treat, easy to tear into small, bite-sized pieces) has eight ingredients. This taffy, which my own hens LOVE to eat, has more ingredients than any other Jones treat. Eight. Let’s break that down, this high ingredient treat from Jones.
- Chicken
- Rye flour
- Glycerin
- Salt
- Liquid smoke flavoring
- Natural mixed tocopherols
- Rosemary extract
My bad. That’s seven ingredients. Main ingredient being real chicken. All the rest of the ingredients are natural, meaning from nature, nothing artificial or synthetic. Now, pop over to Milkbone’s list of ingredients and tell me which you’d rather give your dog. I count 24 ingredients, but there’s a bunch of stuff in parenthesis that I didn’t count. The first two ingredients are wheat.
So is All Natural a big deal? I think so. I think it’s important to know what we’re putting into our bodies. It’s also important to know what we’re putting into our dog’s bodies. We are what we eat, right?
Here’s to all natural! It’s kind of a big deal. And here’s to Jones Natural Chews. Added bonus? Jones knows how to make your dog smile! Naturally.
Until I write again …

P.S. You can scroll over any treat in the Jones products and a box pops up telling you exactly what is in each treat. Always be informed!
