Jones Natural Chews
Jones Natural Chews! Instead of talking about treats today, I’d like to tell you a little about Jones Natural Chews, the company.
First, how did the Jones family come into the meat business?
The Jones history as meat cutters and butchers in the USA can be traced back fifteen decades to Stephen Jones, meat cutter, in 1850 in Rome, New York. … With each new generation being trained in meat cutting and passing down the family tradition, Robert L. Jones worked in his father’s meat packing plant until 1970.
Robert is the dad. My bosses’ dad. He’s one of the greatest guys you ever want to meet, seriously. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love Robert. And the man knows meat, inside and out, as well as people. He loves his kids, too. So how did this meat business become a dog treat business?
Gone to the Dogs
In 1970 Robert L. Jones founded this company as a small meat market with a smokehouse to provide custom butchering and smoking for local farmers in Woodstock, Illinois. The best cuts of meat also produced the best bones and word traveled fast that Jones was the place to go for naturally baked dog treats.
Mmmm. I have fond, fond memories of the beef jerky end pieces that Robert would send Laura when we were college roomies a million years ago. The fatty little end pieces, loaded with calories and flavor … *drool* Oh man. Those were the days.
Good times. Then Laura went home, junior year, to finish school and work for the family. It was about that time that they started Jones Natural Chews.
By 1988, three of Robert’s children, Darren, Dean, and Laura had joined the company and were eager to expand the dog treats. The dog treat division was officially established in 1991.
The rest, as they say, is history. Since 1988, Jones has been producing high quality all natural dog chews, with every single ingredient sourced and prepared on US soil. Knowing the Jones family all these years, I know that they’re people of integrity, hard working midwesterners. They take meat and work very seriously. They also know how to play hard. Every last one of them has a wicked sense of humor.
There are stories. Most of my stories involve my being on the embarrassed end, so we’ll save those for another day.
But Do Dogs Love the Treats?
What else can I tell you? Every dog I’ve met has fallen madly in love with Jones Natural Chews. None more so than my own dogs. It’s pretty amazing what high quality meat products can do for a dog. And you’ll be more than pleasantly surprised by the price. For the best treats in the country, they’re the mostly reasonably priced, I think. Take a look at a pet or feed store near you. Or order online from Natural Dog Treat Shop.
