Do you have a jealous dog? I have three dogs – Chewy, Flash and Patches. Flash and Patches are fifty pound Australian Shepherd mixes, and Chewy is a 12 pound Affenpinscher mutt. They all display their jealousy in different ways. And sometimes I’m not sure what’s jealousy, loyalty, comfort, or something else. Flash, for instance, likes his comforts.
Flash loves to be right next to me on the couch. Patches, she’s just crazy. Rarely jealous, unless Hunny is paying attention to someone else. She’s a daddy’s girl. She’s also a treat girl.
But Chewy. Ai yi yi … Chewy is a jealous dog. Whether I’m handing out treats …
… or dispensing pets, Chewy is right in the middle of it. And visiting with another dog for a photo shoot? Forget it. Chewy the Jealous Dog spends ten minutes sniffing me when I get home and won’t let me out of his sight for about an hour.
Sometimes I think I have a jealous dog, but it’s really just being a pig. Wants all the treats first. That would be all three dogs, but especially small, quick Chewy. If I’m not careful, he snatches treats from Flash and Patches’ mouths. He’s a naughty puppy.
So what is a jealous dog? Do you have one? Love him or hate him, I actually have to agree with Cesar on this one. There really isn’t such a thing as a jealous dog. Watch the video. Dispute it. Blow up my comments. Whatever. It’s a valid demonstration of his point.
My dog’s behavior is really about me. And I’m a middle aged woman whose children are on the verge of leaving home, so I’m attaching more importance to my dogs than I ever have. They’re playing off my emotions and energy. Fortunately for them. I’m not wound very tightly. We’re all just having a good time. And there’s therapy to fix what ails me. 😉
So! Tell me about your jealous dog! Or your jealous you. And give your dog a Jones chew, will ya? It’ll make your dog smile. Naturally.
Until I write again …
