How To Get a Sponsor
Today’s post, How To Get a Sponsor, is gently recycled. Jones Natural Chews is sending me to learn and network at BlogHer, a blogging conference for women, in a couple of weeks. Yesterday we talked about back to back conferences. They’re expensive, between tickets, hotel, travel and food, and it helps to have someone else footing at least part of the bill. Read on to learn more.
It’s Follow Up Friday, thanks to Jodi at Heart Like a Dog, and you know what that means! Questions and answers! Taryn, Cardi Corgi mom extraordinaire, asks:
How does one go about finding a sponsor for BlogPaws?
That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? How does one get a sponsor to attend a coveted event? My story is a little different, since I’m actually employed by Jones Natural Chews to blog for them. So I dug. Here’s what I find, which I know to be true from other conferences and conversations.
Mom Central recommends pitching the PR agency or marketing department of a company. She says to be specific with the pitch, and I quote:
Who to ask:
- What PR firms or companies do you have relationships with? Who have you worked with in the past at blogger events or doing reviews or giveaways on your blog? These are the people and firms that know you, your brand, your influence and hopefully your worth.
- What brand or product would you feel comfortable representing? Is it a good fit for your blog? Yes, we all love ice cream, but if you have a weight loss blog it may not be the best product to sponsor you.
Yes! Who have you done giveaways for? Taryn, your beauties do agility. Are there companies you have relationships with that you can talk to? Crate companies, agility equipment? Dog food companies, whatever your dogs eat? Look at everything dog related in your home and car. Look at everything specific to your breed or ability (is your dog therapy? fly ball? search and rescue? glamorous?).
Next Mom Central says to be careful how to ask, as well as know what you have to offer. I’ll let you read the rest at their site, so I’m not just copying all her words. Very good advice.
What’s Better Than Ryan Gosling?
Jackie Bouchard asks, regarding this photo:
What’s better than Ryan Gosling???
Then she answers her own question, ” *Wet* Ryan Gosling! Too darn cute!” I agree. 🙂
Also regarding the Ryan photo, Emma asks:
Love the pic of Ryan swimming, tell me honestly, did you put mousse in his hair???
Hm. No. Ryan doesn’t have real feathers yet. His soft, fluffy down is like fine baby hair. That’s just water.
Jodi asks:
Um the thing about the ducks/geese etc…if they’re so mean why oh why do you keep bringing them in? LOL
*sigh* I wish I knew. Ryan is a cute little baby who needs attention, so he comes in the house for snuggle time. Jimmy doesn’t bite hard very often now that he’s older. Jimmy is a year and a half, nearly two. When he was Petey’s age, last spring and summer, he bit hard like Petey does. Petey is learning to be more gentle, but it’s taking time. I’m hoping that by this time next year the two horny male ducks will have settled down and learned to treat their mama with care and respect. Ugh. But I love them. That’s the short answer.
Added: I no longer have Ryan Gosling. He spent the summer with us, then migrated once his wings were strong enough. I miss him. Also, I no longer have two male ducks. Petey and Jim hated each other, so Petey went to live on a farm in the country. True story.
