You heard me. Hooves are just giant toenails. It’s the truth.
One of the featured treats for Jones Natural Chews, this month, is the Hoof. Dogs either go bananas for Hooves, or they completely ignore them. And yes, Hooves are toenails of cows, slow baked to perfection. Jones Hooves are single ingredient treats, with no coatings, and are from all-American cows (none of them, to my knowledge, played football), baked in American buildings.
What’s so special about the Hooves? I mean, besides the whole all natural thing, and American cows. Hooves are special because they’re:
- Cartilage – instead of bone, which splinters, the cartilage is gnawed away in little bits, and it doesn’t tend to splinter
- It’s a great gnawing treat, good for teeth and gums, without being a bone
- Because the Hooves are somewhat hollow, dog owners smear a little peanut butter into the recess in the center, using it to keep the dog busy, or give as a special treat – you could also fill with yogurt and pumpkin or fruit, freeze and treat – there are plenty of fun options with the hollow of the Hoof – shoot, they’re so all-American you could fill them with apple pie
- Long lasting – Hooves are a favorite here and tend to last a LONG time, wandering around the house and being thrown outside, then brought back in
Thrown outside? Did you read that right? Yes you did. In addition to all these wonderful things about Hooves for dogs (dogs really do love them), the Hooves stink when they’re being chewed. They’re like some Soviet stealth treat for dogs. Quiet, innocuous, scent-free, delicious looking, then BAM! The dog starts chewing on a Hoof and it stinks! Which is so exciting for a dog! Mom and dad gave me this really cool chew that tastes like cow and smells like dog Heaven! WOOHOO!
So my dogs are required to chew their Hooves outside. And they keep sneaking them into the bedroom at night anyway. Then get shut in the bathroom, since they won’t give up the Hoof.
Yeah. But the dogs love it, so who am I to complain? AND there are Hooves which don’t stink. It’s like some kind of evil dog game. I think dogs secretly love the Hoof game, nearly as much as they love Hooves.
So make your dog smile! Pick up some Jones Hooves on the way home from work. Or pop over to Natural Dog Treat Shop and order a handful. Your dog will love you for it. And maybe even empty the dishwasher, take out the trash. Just watch them with the trash. Some dogs think trash is just as tasty as a Hoof. 😉
Until I write again …
