Hola! Feliz Navidad!

December 14, 2012

I’m teaching my dogs Spanish. I’ll be the first to say, “No habla espanol!” in a horrible anglo accent. But I thought it would be fun to teach Flash and Patches to say, “Hola! Feliz Navidad!” But first we had to set the mood.

Feliz Navidad!
Time for a siesta! Next time I’ll get video, so you can hear him speak Spanish.

Flash has surprised me by being fairly fluent in Spanish. Seriously. I mean, I know he speaks Bark and English, and he’s lost his Aussie accent, sadly, but Spanish? Doesn’t he look happy? I think maybe he just likes Christmas. And sombreros. Look at this face:

Debonair
He exudes confidence and strength. And he’s super cute.

That’s a happy dog. He was rolling off all kinds of Spanish phrases. I just kept repeating my own phrase, I don’t speak Spanish. All I wanted was for the dogs to learn Hola! Feliz Navidad! Is that too much to ask? Apparently, for some dogs, it is.

Ole'!
Patches looks amazing in a sombrero, but she is not a happy dog.

The sombreros, while stylish, are not comfortable, at least for a dog. Which is really too bad. Because they’re WAY too big for a duck. Y’all, I’m looking for a duck sized sombrero. I am.

So we tried something different. This time, instead of dressing and photographing the dogs on my own, I recruited my son’s help. He mostly just laughed while holding their collars. Hmph. This time we attempted reindeer antlers. Everybody’s dogs are wearing antlers this Christmas, right? RIGHT?!

Only Flash will tolerate
Flash seems at ease with the antlers

Well. Mine are. See?

Antler pose
My handsome boy was willing to pose for the camera.

Flash likes the antlers nearly as much as he likes the sombrero. He’s my favorite. There, I said it. I have a favorite. Patches, on the other hand …

Take them off!
This was our third or fourth – and final – attempt. Patches wasn’t having any of it.

Not so much. Is that the saddest thing you’ve ever seen?

We tried photographing the two together. They didn’t cooperate. And when I say they, I mean Patches. She really hates having something on her head.

No antlers for me!
Mama, I’m the good dog, right?
Get these things off my head!

I obviously don’t have a secret for photographing dogs with things on their heads. The secret is having a well trained dog all around. Mine are not well trained dogs. I’m just lucky that Flash is super laid back. And old.

Christmas is less than two weeks away! And I still don’t have a good card photo of the dogs together. 🙁 Or even my kids. But that’s okay. I’m going to head to Atwoods and get my favorite dog some Jones Natural Chews. The variety bag, I think. Maybe Patches can have one, if she sucks up like a good dog. 😉

Until I write again …
