Have you made any New Year’s resolutions, set any goals? Do any of them include your dog? Is one of them to provide better treats for your dog in 2014?

Slim Doggy is kicking off the year right, over at Pets Move, with a Move Your Mutt-a-Thon, so if you’ve set goals about getting off the couch and exercising, pop over there and jump start your year by getting in motion and taking your dog with you! I’ve committed to walking my dogs three days a week.

But! Many people start their new year with a diet. I’ve begun 2014 with the goal to become 90% vegan by the end of the year, long term. I don’t have anything against meat, but vegan works best for my body, for my health. Do you have a food goal for yourself? For your dog?

I’m fortunate enough to work for one of the best dog treat companies in the country. Jones Natural Chews is a family run business that’s been in the meat industry for 150+ years. Their treats are mostly meat (I’ll be giving good meat to my dogs instead of myself this year). They’re 100% all natural and 100% grown and made in the USA. They’re even USA certified!

Sure, that makes them good. But what makes them great is the attention to detail. I toured the new facility at Jones recently and was blown away by their commitment to cleanliness and safety, both for the employees and for the chews.

But the treats themselves! That’s the amazing part. The treats are low to single ingredient treats. Lots of bones. All of them are baked or smoked to perfection. The multi-ingredient treats have, typically, three to eight ingredients, all recognizable. The tocopherals are the only ones I didn’t understand, and they’re an all-natural preservative.

This month of January we’ll be featuring the Other Ear and the Lambly Links from Jones, so stay tuned next Tuesday for a giveaway! The Other Ear is pork and a single ingredient chew, while the Lambly Links are a low ingredient lamb sausage. Both of them dogs go wild for. These are definitely better treats.

Let me know if you’re setting goals for the new year! I’ll be posting photos of the dogs and myself out for walks. I’ll try not to talk about my vegan meals. Probably two thirds of them will be green smoothies anyway, and nobody wants to see that. 😉
Happy New Year, everyone!
Until I write again …
