Shelter update – I called the humane society this morning about the volunteer class and they are still behind from the holidays. They’ll be letting people know when the next class is scheduled.

*sigh* So I wait. And hope that they don’t stretch this out until late February and schedule it while I’m out of town.
Did I not tell you I am going out of town? I am! Jones Natural Chews will be an exhibitor at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida, in late February! It’s a trade show, not a blog event, but it will be my first one, so I’m pretty excited.
I’ll be learning and blogging from the Expo. Wandering around, talking to people, eating pet treats, stuffing marketing things in my pockets to take home. Y’know. Or not.
My boss will probably search my pockets daily, now that I’ve put that out there.
Having never attended a trade show – the closest thing to a “show” I’ve attended was a Doctor Who Panopticon back in ’85 – I did a little research, to know what to expect. Here are some of the reasons that Global Pet Expo gives for being an exhibitor (they’re trying to lure me in):
- I’ll meet retailers and news agents from all over the world. I’ll even get to see Christie, from Life with Beagle. She’s local, but that works for me. I might even have lunch with Gizmo’s mom. 🙂
- New products showcase! Okay, I’m seriously excited about this one. This show is for all KINDS of pets, not just dogs. Is it too much to hope that there will be duck products? I’ll keep my eyes open for cool dog stuff for y’all, and cool duck stuff for me.
- A networking reception! This one is probably the most exciting! Because most of the rest of the list means nothing to me. I’m sure that will change once I’m there and see what’s happening.
So, who’s been to one of these big pet expos? Who can tell me what to expect, from a blogger’s perspective? I’m not too psyched about Florida, since I lived there eleven years and it wasn’t my favorite place to be, but I’m happy to be meeting up with local friends while there. Strictly expo, though – what’s a blogger to do?
I think I’ll leave it at that until I’ve gone, seen, kicked expo butt. Until then, I have another Honey photo. And a Petey photo. You’re welcome.

Isn’t Honey adorable? I never thought I’d like shih tzus. Their personalities are fantastic!
And Petey? My son brought him in the house yesterday. He was a little nervous at first, but then he was curious. Having a duck as a pet is the best thing EVER.

I think my boy agrees.

Oh, and those gloves? Not standard issue for handling Petey. Thaniel was helping me move tanned hides from their brine to a board.
Y’all have a great Thursday! Sorry to be so scattered today. And let me know if you’ll be attending the Global Pet Expo. I’d love to see you there!
Until I write again …
Flea
