Friday Memes

April 17, 2015

Friends, I thank you. Thank you for your heartfelt compassion after yesterday’s post. While I won’t be getting over the loss of Bosco anytime soon, y’all made my heart smile, easing the pressure some. I appreciate it more than you know.

And because I love and appreciate you all (and because I’m doing stupid stuff to make myself feel normal), I bring you Friday memes. Even sick and grieving, the dogs need to be fed, let out (a MILLION times a day), given treats. The chicks need to be taken out into the fresh air to hunt bugs and eat weeds. Life goes on. And I take advantage of it. For you, my friends. For you.

Treat! Treat!
Chewy knows a good treat when he smells it. He rarely takes a biscuit from anyone, but he’ll snap up a meaty Jones Natural Chew in a heartbeat, even taking it out of a larger dog’s mouth. I didn’t say he was smart.
You said treats!
Gadget, on the other hand, is a brilliant dog. He not only knows his way around a Jones chew, he knows how to sneak them away from the big dogs without a full frontal assault. And when to patiently wait. Gadget came to us already knowing the command Sit. We’re working on Down.

These two dogs entertain me all day long. While I’ve been sick, they’ve kept my legs warm all day and night. My toes are tingling. Your legs ever fall asleep when a dog sleeps on them?

Hatching a plot
Something is brewing in the garage. I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with the chicks, but I think they’re hatching a plot. Roux, my Brabanter, might be the ring leader.
The plot thickens
Denial is strong. Chicks don’t give it up when their flock is involved. And they’ll throw each other under the bus when they think they’re in danger. Penelope swears she had no part in whatever is going down.
Denial in the nest
Ramona Ramona Ramona. Really? You disappoint me.

So the chicks have been busy. I think. Kinda hard to tell. And I’d like to get their cage outside for good, but there’s rain in the forecast for days. Crazy spring weather. They need to get out of the garage and into the new grass. Jimmy agrees.

Kissy face duck
Jimmy has been going stir crazy. He’s been in a yard with four hens for months. No girl duck in sight. And every time I let him loose, he runs to my feet. Yesterday he spent half an hour walking up my leg and arm repeatedly, climbing onto my shoulder. What an affectionate duck. I have the bruises to prove it. Don’t let him kiss you. Don’t.

So life goes on and the weekend is here. Enjoy it. Spend time outside with your dogs. And kids if you have them. I’m going to be setting up some chicks in the backyard. And treating my dogs to Cutie Qs and Wheezer Sticks. And hiding that dang Hoof. I don’t care how stuffed up my nose is, I smell it. Hey! Maybe I’ll send a half chewed Hoof to one of your dogs! Or not. Go out and get your own Jones chews. That’ll make your dog smile. Naturally.

Until I write again …
