Summers are typically tough here at Casa de Pulga. Tulsa, and Oklahoma, tends to get weeks of 100+ degree days, sometimes a couple of weeks of 110+ degree days. It’s hard on the dogs, obviously, but even harder on the chickens and Jimmy, the duck.
We have a lovely misting system (think grocery store produce section) on the back porch, but the birds all live in a pen now, so they only enjoy the mist when I let them out in time (it’s on a timer). Yesterday I let them out.
Fortunately for the birds, this summer has been mild. Until this week. We’re back up to 100+ degree days. So! Yesterday, I let the birds out for a few hours. And they were the happiest chickens and duck in Tulsa. This was Jimmy before I left to take the neighbor’s mom to WalMart.
I hate WalMart. We go to mock people, but it’s not my idea of fun.
Anyway! It looks like we’re in for more summer for the next week. Finally. Is anyone out there keeping up with polar vortex and El Nino news? I hear that my region is looking at a wet fall and winter, with colder than average temps, which is pretty darn exciting for this southern girl.
And! I’m heading to Chicago in mid-September. I already have a couple of couches lined up for crashing on (thanks Dawn and Stella Rose!). Looking for one more couch or guest room on the way back, as well as fellow bloggers in and around Chicago who want to meet for breakfast or lunch on a Sunday. I’ll have treats! You know I’ll have treats.
I’ll leave y’all with some images of my Jimmy, my favorite duck. Can I just tell y’all, I never, ever expected to love a duck this much? It’s a wonder to me. And I never expected a duck to love me as much as Jimmy does. Granted, half of it is just being a male duck.
Y’all have a great weekend! And don’t forget to pick up some Jones Natural Chews. Your dog deserves a great weekend, too.
Until I write again …
