Dog Personalities
Dog personalities? Yes! What personality is your dog? I have a hard enough time keeping track of my own personality!
Today’s post is gently recycled, prior to the introduction of Chewy and Gadget to our home. My second round of chemo was yesterday and my hands are shaking like a leaf. No nausea, though, thank God.
Last night I was on FaceCrack – yeah, I’m addicted to it (social networking is my replacement for TV) – and someone posted a panel of animals representing personality types. If you’d like to take a short version of the Meyers Briggs test, go here. I love personality tests!
It got me wondering – are dog personalities tested? I mean, we all know they have distinct personalities. Initially I found a pretty tame personality list at Florida Dog Training School:
- Aggressive
- Confident
- Outgoing
- Adaptable
- Insecure
- Independent
If you’d like to see their descriptions, feel free to click over. I read through and decided that both of my senior dogs are pretty confident. Only because they don’t fit any of the other descriptions. So I kept hunting …
An excerpt from the book, Dog Tricks Step by Step by Mary Ann Zeigenfuse, can be found on AngelFire. It’s an actual test. My dogs score higher in prey and defensive fight. To be honest, I don’t pay enough attention to answer all of those questions well.
Where things get dicey, at least for me, is when I started taking the test which tells what the breed dog you own says about YOU and your personality. Gah. Cesar Millan, for instance, says I like being outside and living life to the fullest. Maybe he hasn’t met me.
ABC says that owning a herding dog makes me an extrovert. I’m trusting Mr. Millan more at this point. That’s just ridiculous. If you know me in real life, you know I’m a social introvert. Social when we’re not face-to-face. Like here on the blog. Y’all, dog peronalities fascinate me as much as people’s.
What dog breed are you? Well, that’s a little like asking what animal am I, from the first quiz on FaceCrack. Let me just say that they pegged me pretty darn close with my personality, but the Jack Russell’s energy level certainly isn’t mine. I’m impressed with this quiz overall. (I had to find a different quiz, and now I test as a Boston Terrier)
A similar test, with more self-centered questions, is this meme quiz. With only four questions, pretty bogus. It tells me I’m a bull mastiff. Whatever.
What Dog Is Right for You?
Are you thinking of getting a dog? Not sure which one to get? After our first Aussie passed, I took quizzes to see which breed would be a good fit for our family. I loved our Clee-o, but the shedding drove me near-mad. Even with the fur everywhere, the quizzes kept pointing to Australian Shepherds for our family. Taking one again today? Oh my. Here are my top results:
Alaskan Malamute
Anatolian Shepherd Dog
Bernese Mountain Dog
Black Russian Terrier
Boxer
Okay. Imma have to look up some of those. Laid back? Are they? Anyone? Because I was seriously thinking our next dog would be a Great Pyrenees. Seriously.
Last, but definitely not least, is the quiz which pits you against your dog! My dogs scored better than I did. I suspect most dogs score better than their people.
So whether you’re just bored and poking around online to have fun, or seriously looking for a new family pet and need to make sure it’s a good fit, have fun! Dog personalities rock!
