Chickens Love Jones/Pet Portraits

September 20, 2013

LEAVE A COMMENT ON THE BOOK REVIEW POST FOR A CHANCE AT MY COPY OF RESCUE ME, MAYBE!!!

Technically it’s Follow Up Friday, hosted by Jodi at Heart Like a Dog, when I answer questions that are asked in the comments all week. I will. I’ll answer some questions. But I got a box of Jones taffies in the mail yesterday (I like having sandwich size zipper baggies in my purse for photo purposes and handing out with my card when I meet new dogs).

Jones Chicken Taffy
A Big Box o’Chicken Taffy

While bagging up the taffies – which I think are mostly Jones Tender Taffy Chicken Blend – it hit me that I haven’t tried out treats with the chickens in a long time. So I took one little piece outside and the girls came running, like they always do, to see what mama had for them to eat.

Is the taffy good?
Mary Ann and Ginger eye the Chicken Taffy with suspicion

They like it. They really like it. In fact, while they were tearing it out of my hand, I got a little video footage of my chickens eating Chicken Taffy.

I love my girls, but chickens are cannibals. Any way you slice it, Jones Chicken Taffy is a great, all natural treat for chickens. Oh, and for dogs.

In other news, my friend who helps me with blogging glitches and free design advice is now doing pet portraits. She’s good. And inexpensive. I plan on ordering Christmas cards from her once she gets her prices for me. How beautiful would this be on a Christmas card?

Without her watermarks, of course. But I love this! Or a Christmas card with Jimmy front and center:

Pretty duck portrait
Okay, so this is really her watermark. I added the other one, since I pin the photos and don’t want people stealing her images.

How stunning are these?!? Contact Karen at Simply Amusing Designs if you’d like to get a jump on cards, canvas prints, t-shirts, Christmas gifts … I might dress the dogs in reindeer antlers and jingle bells for this.

Questions! The first is from Jodi, and I’m declaring it the last hawk question, barring another incident.
I’m going back to the hawk, have you ever considered hitting it with a blast of pepper spray? Or a giant squirt gun full of water? I’m not sure if those would be deterrents or not. How about a big plastic goose?
Hitting a hawk with anything requires good aim. It requires me to be outside when a hawk strikes. It requires me to be outside for every hawk, not just the one that has his eye on my chickens right now. I’ll think about the big goose, though. I know they’re pricey, but if it works, if I move it around the yard every day, maybe … but the hawk struck while Ryan was outside. Ryan had to fight for it to leave. 🙁

Stella Rose, my favorite Pug, asks:
OH Flea we loved watching that movie with you as the star….do you think it would be to much to ask if you would sent us a autographed picture of you for our wall of fame, (the refrig)?
Those Christmas cards I just talked about ordering from Karen? I’ll send you one of those for Christmas. Will that do?

One more. This one is from Slim Doggy:
We’re trying Jack on a single protein diet (salmon) to see if it clears up his allergies, so no bones for him. Do you guys have fish skins?
No. I’m so sorry. Jones Natural Chews started life as a slaughter house, then a butcher shop. They offer all natural, all made in the USA, but all land animals. I hope Jack’s allergies clear up, though. Have you tried probiotics along with the salmon? I hear great things about it for dogs’ allergies.

Don’t forget to leave a comment on yesterday’s post if you’d like a chance to win Jackie’s book, Rescue Me, Maybe! I’ll be choosing a winner and announcing it Monday morning!

Until I write again …
