Barrel Racing
We’re taking a slight detour today, and watching blooper reels of barrel racing. Why? I attended the NBHA state barrel racing competition in Shawnee, OK, this weekend to see a friend run. And there were tons of dogs there! I totally forgot to bring my Jones Natural Chews, but I did get some great dog photos. And horse photos! So sit back and watch the barrel racing bloopers, while knowing that Wednesday will be full of dog photos.
Funny Videos, of Course
I watched a couple hundred horses race. I didn’t see any riders fall, or horses. Evidently it happens.
I did see quite a few horses freak out. Charge the fence past the first barrel and not make the turn. It was heartbreaking to watch, especially when the rider was a young girl. She usually looked like she was fighting tears. But I was proud of each and every rider. They all made it to state. And they all had the next day to make up for Saturday’s bloopers.
Next up – how to train for barrel racing competition.
I’m thinking that’s probably not how to train. I’ll have to ask Emily, my racing friend and author of a homesteading blog (where you can pop in to see the cutest ducklings and kid goats EVER).
Now if you’re wondering what exactly barrel racing is, the following video describes the competition well.
I tell you what – you watch enough horses run and you find yourself yelling, “GO! GO! GO!” as the horse and rider round that last barrel and stretch it out to end their run. It’s a beautiful sight.
What an amazing event. 🙂 Thanks for coming along with me.
Giveaway
You didn’t think I forgot about the Jones Natural Chews Windees giveaway, did you? Never! Jones is giving Windees to some lucky dog! And just what are Windees? They’re sections of beef trachea and great for senior dogs, because they’re naturally chock full of glucosamine and chondroitin. If you click on this sentence, a new window with the giveaway post will open, and you’ll scroll to the bottom and follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter. Your dog will thank you.
Oh, and your dog wanted me to tell you that you should Like Jones Natural Chews Facebook page. You know, so it can keep up with giveaways and funny videos and stuff. Don’t ask me how I know these things. I just do.
Spreading the good chews …
Flea
P.S. My cancer update! We really like the surgeon and have scheduled a date for surgery – May 18th. He says it’ll take a solid month to recover, and I’ll spend the first week of that in the hospital. At the very least, I’ll have a temporary ileostomy bag. But he thinks there’s only a 20% chance he can save my rectum, that I’ll probably get a permanent bag. If you pray, pray that I’m in that 20%. The tumor should be non-existent when he does surgery, but because he needs to get good margin around its location, and because it’s so low, chances are slim. I’ll be frank – I’m more than a little nervous about the whole thing. Then, once I’m recovered, we begin the six months of chemo. Just reminding myself to breathe …
