BarkWorld – My First Conference
BarkWorld was my first conference for dogs. It’s happening again this week, still in Atlanta, and today’s is a gently recycled post. I’ve learned a lot about dogs and conferences since this one. And I’m missing the conference this year. Karen Dibert, of the French Dog Etsy shop, will be handing out Jones Natural Chews at the conference this week. She and Louie the French Dog will be making dogs smile. Oh, and happy Wordless Wednesday!
Happy Reformation Day! Happy All Hallow’s Eve! Happy Halloween!
So? Are you dressing your dog for Halloween? Let me show you! Let me show you! BarkWorld photos!
Yes. There WAS Bull Dog Ballet at BarkWorld. Don’t ask. Pudgy makes a lovely ballerina, don’t you think? As you know, I attended Bark World in Atlanta this weekend, thanks to my generous employer, Jones Natural Chews. It was a great event, the first conference I’ve attended where the goodie bag held more than my suitcase.
BarkWorld was held at the Westin Buckhead in downtown Atlanta, a swanky high rise hotel smack next to the largest mall in the state. The Westin allows dogs, which is nice, since this was a dog-centric event. Beautiful dogs. Unfortunately, I can’t remember all of their names.
I know I won’t spell it right, but this is Ghilley, a Celtic name for dog. Ghilley is a very large Australian Shepherd from North Carolina. Gorgeous. Ghilley likes brie. And …
Cosmo Havanese is one of the sweetest, most obedient dogs I’ve met. Cosmo is no longer with us, but Diane has another beauty of a Havanese she writes about. Cosmo. Head to Diane’s blog to see photos of more dogs in their Howl-o-ween costumes at Bark World.
Norman the Scooter Dog is a big, beautiful French Sheepdog, a Briard, who does cool tricks. I love him. I wanted to take him home. His cause is ending puppy mills, something we heard quite a bit about at BarkWorld, and which I’ll be talking more about at some point soon.
LOOK AT THIS FACE!!! Yeah, I wanted to take this one home, too. *sigh* Aren’t they darling?
While in Atlanta, I was able to catch up with my bosses, whom I love dearly (we’re old friends of the best caliber), and meet new blogging friends. True story: I have a friend on Instagram – and only Instagram – who I had no clue what she did. She posted a photo of a plane wing last week, saying she was on her way to Bark World. So OF COURSE I hunted her down and took her photo. Y’all know Kim Clune, of Be the Change 4 Animals? Kim rocks the cat box.
Kim and Amy were making a salad either the people or the dogs could eat. It looked delicious. She and her buddy, Amy? make way cool dehydrated food for dogs, so pups get natural stuff with no bad ingredients. Of course, Jones does something similar, but with treats. And lots of nummy meaty bits and bites. Different ways of approaching how and what your dog eats, eh?
Atlanta is a Great City
Just in case you’re wondering what I did all weekend while in Atlanta, I partied hard:
That’s right, boys and girls. In my off hours I’m a Mardi Gras sailor. Also, I hung out with people I love:
Nothing says “Atlanta” like having your photo taken with a dolphin, eh? I watched fish:
We had a fish tank once. It was nothing like this. The Georgia Aquarium is HUGE. I even drank Coke (requisite if you’re visiting Atlanta, the home of CocaCola):
This big Coke bottle is from Texas, where everything is bigger. Obviously. And then I drove home. But before arriving home, I visited friends. And look!
Isn’t Molly the long-haired dachshund a beaut? Darling, no? Clementine – isn’t that a sweet name? – is a red short-haired dachshund, the first dog I remember our family having. Unlike ours, Clementine loves people. Yeah, there’s a story there. Molly and Clementine are sweeties, much nicer than most Dachshunds of my acquaintance.
Yeah. Life is good. Thank you, BarkWorld and Jones Natural Chews, for a great weekend. Expect it to overflow here soon in a big way, including some of the goodies being given away.
