Recall update
Update September 19, 2011

The pig ear recall that occurred in March 2011 has been resolved. All pig ears from the affected batch that were still in the marketplace have been retrieved and properly disposed of.

We implemented this voluntary recall to ensure our customer's safety. No pets were affected by this batch of pig ears.

We have implemented changes to our procedures to include a very high level of attention to every detail. We also have utilized the services of a third party auditing company to ensure complete compliance with our HACCP inspection program and with FDA rules and regulations.

We appreciate your patience and value the trust that you have put into our company. Your pet's safety and well-being are very important to us.

Pig Ear Recall
For over two decades the Jones Natural Chews Co has taken great pride in producing flavorful quality dog treats. From the very start over 20 years ago we made product safety and quality our #1 priority and that is still true today.

Since 1991, state of the art food safety guidelines were established for production of all of our products. Adhering to these safety procedures has allowed us to avoid any food safety issues.

Even with this rigid food safety program, a positive test was reported to Jones on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 for a possible Salmonella Health Risk. The effected product was a single batch of pig ears. This small batch of pig ears shipped between September 16, 2010 and November 2, 2010. No other products have been unaffected. Please see the FDA press release link for exact labels and lot code numbers.

For the safety of our customers, we have elected to implement an immediate voluntary recall.
Keeping accurate records, we have been able to conclude which customers had received the pig ear products. These customers were individually contacted and advised of the effected product.

Consumers having the affected lot codes in their possession are requested to return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund or replacement. Should you have any additional questions or concerns please contact our Consumer Service Department and we will be happy to assist you. Call us toll free at (877) 481-2663 or e-mail us at

We continue to use the services of a well-respected third party meat scientist (Ph.D.) and a microbiologist to ensure the safest products.

Your patience with this situation is appreciated. We look forward to continue providing you now and in the future with safe quality treats for that special member of your family.
